ERMN
Almost every corporation or organization has a video library that it is used for training, communications, and government compliance issues or has video with historical significance. These libraries have real value. They also have a limited life. Over a period of time, the video degrades to a point where it eventually becomes unusable and the information is lost. In many cases, over a period of years, there is an investment of $1,000,000.00, or more. Just having a video library can be expensive. First, you need to store the tapes someplace. Then you need an employee familiar with the library to manage it, and it takes time to search, duplicate and ship dubs.

Today if you want something from a video library, you have to first find the tape and then have a dub made from it. If you are in a different location you have packaging and shipping costs. If you have a large work force, this becomes a significant cost. In the case of Union Pacific, they send approximately 30,000 tapes a year. This cost can be over $200,000.00 per year, and does not include the employee to manage the library or the space to store the tape or equipment maintenance. Another example is American Express Financial. They send up to 40,000 tapes a month to their field offices.

The Editech Rich Media Network, or ERMN has a solution. Archiving the videotape library in a way that is easily searched, and distribution is simple and inexpensive. Many companies have called us to put their library on DVD’s so that the video is in a more permanent form. That solves the problem of the tape degeneration. However, instead of hundreds or thousands of tapes you have replaced them with DVD’s that you still have to search for, then duplicate and ship.
