The appliance uses FTP (File Transfer Protocol) to send MPEG2 files from one appliance to another. You could just transfer files to any file server. However, you would be unable to monitor any of this. With clipmail, using FTP, you are able to monitor the appliance on the other end. You know what space is available, you know it is receiving and you know when it is finished and that your file was successfully received. You are able to control the content of all appliances in the field so that you know what data is in each one, how long it has been there and what you want to do with it. This allows you to make sure that the correct commercial always goes to the right place at the right time.
